Niecy Nash will host the 32nd GLAAD Media Awards, the advocacy organization revealed Wednesday.
“I am so thrilled to be hosting this year’s GLAAD Media Awards, honoring the LGBTQ stories and images that change the world by growing acceptance and understanding,” said Nash in a statement.
“My wife Jessica and I are still thriving in newlywed bliss, and I’m looking forward to bringing that love and joy to GLAAD’s biggest night. Be ready for a surprise or two!”
The actress is currently starring in the TNT drama, Claws, and this week was announced as having boarded the Netflix romantic comedy The Perfect Find. Meanwhile, she is developing projects through her production company Chocolate Chick.
Among the nominees for this year’s GLAAD awards are Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and Happiest Season, while TV nods include Schitt’s Creek and Love, Victor. Like last year, the ceremony will take place virtually due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
GLAAD is also working with video-sharing platform TikTok on a recognition titled “TikTok Queer Advocate of the Year,” highlighting a creator who has raised LGBTQ visibility.
Led by president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis, GLAAD was established in 1990 to honor mainstream and independent media that features authentic portrayals of characters in the LGBTQ community.
The virtual awards ceremony will stream on GLAAD’s YouTube channel on April 8 at 8 p.m. ET. The broadcast will also air on Hulu at 10 p.m. ET, where it will remain on-demand until the end of June.
