New details have come to light concerning the November arrest of Bruce Springsteen.
The 71-year-old rocker has been in the headlines of late after it was discovered earlier in the week he had been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence last November. That news was compounded by the fact that on Sunday Springsteen starred in a Super Bowl commercial for Jeep. That spot has since been pulled.
Springsteen was arrested Nov. 14 in Gateway National Recreation Area. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and consuming alcohol in a closed area, National Park Service spokeswoman Brenda Ling on Wednesday told The Hollywood Reporter. She also noted that Springsteen was “cooperative throughout the process.”
According to the arrest report obtained by news outlets, “Springsteen smelt strongly of alcohol coming off his person and had glassy eyes,” ranger R.L. Hayes wrote.
The ranger noted the Grammy-winning musician allegedly admitted to consuming two shots of tequila in the past 20 minutes. “I asked Springsteen if he was leaving and he confirmed that he was going to drive out of the park,” the report reads. Springsteen was “visibly swaying back and forth while I observed his eyes,” Hayes wrote.
Springsteen, according to the report, initially refused a breath test. However, The Asbury Park Press, citing a source familiar with Springsteen’s case, reported that at some point he did submit to a test and had a BAC of 0.02, which is just a quarter of Jersey’s legal limit of 0.08. The portion of the arrest report released to the media did not include his BAC to verify.
Springsteen’s arrest took place on federal land, which means the case will be handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Newark. His initial court appearance is forthcoming.
Springsteen has yet to publicly comment on the incident.
