When the production for the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series begins in April, Ahmed Best, who played Jar Jar Binks in the Star Wars prequels, will not be present. The actor recently broke the news to fans who hoped his character would return.
“Thanks for the love, but I will not be in this series. As much as I would’ve loved to be a part of it. But I’m ecstatic to see folks who I love dearly back together doing great things,” Best said via social media.
In response to a fan who said they hope to see more Jar Jar in the future, Best replied, “I don’t know how likely either of those will be, but it brings me joy to know that I’ve brought joy to the galaxy.”
Earlier in the week, Disney announced the full cast of the highly anticipated series and said that production was to get underway.
The series’ description reads: “The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Kenobi faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.”
Jar Jar Binks was, at one point, the most polarizing character in the entire Star Wars franchise. Best has been open in the past that the backlash against the character drove him to dark places in his life. However, in recent years, both Jar Jar and Best have been celebrated.
Binks hosts Jedi Temple Challenge, an official Star Wars game show that debuted on the Star Wars Kids website and YouTube channel.
