Cher has effectively told Amanda Seyfried, her co-star in the 2018 film Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, “I got you, babe!”

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the legendary singer-actress, who rarely makes public appearances anymore, has pretaped a virtual Q&A with Seyfried about Seyfried’s awards-buzzed portrayal of the actress Marion Davies in David Fincher‘s Netflix film Mank.

Every member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has been emailed a link to the conversation, which will become available to watch Thursday afternoon.

Seyfried’s performance has brought her career-best reviews and best supporting actress attention, including a nomination at last Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards and a nomination at this Saturday’s Critics Choice Awards. She is also widely regarded as a frontrunner to land a best supporting actress Oscar nom later this month.

Cher, 74, who played the grandmother of the character played by Seyfried, 35, in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, says during the Q&A: “I saw the movie and I loved it … you were great as her … your characterization of her was so good that they [the audience] could get what it was immediately. They could get who she was, what she was doing and how capable she was.”

Seyfried was recently interviewed for another Academy-targeted Q&A by another Oscar-winning legend, Vanessa Redgrave, with whom she starred in Letters From Juliet.
