The members of worldwide phenomenon BTS will be enlisting in the military.
Fans of the smash hit K-pop band have long been wondering when this time would come, and now, a statement has been released confirming the news.
Under South Korean law, men are required to serve between 18 and 21 months in the military, if they are physically able. For those who bring significant economic contributions to the country, the age limit for when they have to enlist was extended to just before their 30th birthday.
A press release dropped on Monday (October 17) to make the announcement, saying:
“After the phenomenal concert to support Busan’s bid for the World Expo 2030, and as each individual embarks on solo endeavors, it’s the perfect time and the members of BTS are honored to serve.
Since the creation of BTS over ten years ago, the band has risen to international success, broken records, and catapulted K-Pop into the global stratosphere. BIG HIT MUSIC has focused to the milestone moment when it would be possible to respect the needs of the country and for these healthy young men to serve with their countrymen, and that’s now.”
The press release revealed that Jin will be the first to enlist as he is the oldest member of BTS. He is expected to start his service towards the end of October after his solo release scheduled shows. The statement added:
“He will then follow the enlistment procedure of the Korean government.
Other members of the group plan to carry out their military service based on their own individual plans. Both the company and the members of BTS are looking forward to reconvening as a group again around 2025 following their service commitment.”
