The 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards will be broadcast on Sunday, Sept. 19, it was announced Tuesday by CBS and the Television Academy.

The ceremony will air live at 5 p.m. PT on the CBS Television Network as well as on Paramount+.

A venue and host will be announced at a later date.

The Emmys telecast cycles between the four major broadcast networks, CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox. The host often, but not always, is a person or persons employed by the host network.

When the Emmys last aired on CBS four years ago, the host was the emcee of the Tiffany Network’s The Late Show, Stephen Colbert. It currently stands as the highest-rated Emmys telecast of the last five years.

The most recent Emmys, held last September, aired on ABC, was hosted by that network’s late night star Jimmy Kimmel, and was mostly virtual due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It set a new record for the lowest-rated Emmys telecast ever.
